Description: This project converted a mechanical building that served only the campus Musical Arts Center into a satellite chiller plant that supplemented the campus central chilled water loop. A new 2500-ton dual compressor chiller was installed, along with new cooling towers and distribution pumps. A new condenser water pit was installed as a reservoir for the cooling tower water to allow for tower drainage and provide freeze protection. In addition to the campus chilled water work, a new heating plant was installed that served the Musical Arts Center including new heat exchangers and pumps. A new medium-voltage sub-station and gear was installed to power the plant. Energy meters were installed, and the plant has been measured as the most efficient plant (kW per chilled water tons) on campus. Construction was completed in 2013.
